When
J. Michael Wheatley and Ralph L. Grayson invited Rep. Steny Hoyer
(D-5th, Md.) to visit their Leonardtown business in November of
1999, they had a dual purpose. They not only wanted to show Hoyer
their facility but also wanted to urge him to support legislation
that is currently being considered in Congress which will make
orthotic and prosthetic devices more available to those in need.

John F. Wood, Jr., Chairman of the Commerce and Government Matters
Committee for the state of Maryland made an onsite visit of
the MHC Prosthetics facility. The topics discussed were the
needs and opportunities for the mentally and physically challenged
residents of Maryland, the third party insurance position as
it pertains to the challenged residents of Maryland, and the
cost-saving of rehabilitation.
Mr.
Wood also toured the orthotic (custom fabricated braces) and prosthetic
(artificial limbs) facility. Dr. Wheatley and Dr. Grayson utilize
21st Century technology in fabricating devices for helping the
physically challenged. They are the only orthotics and prosthetics
laboratory that has the state-of-the-art "Tracer"
CAD-CAM in the state of Maryland. Mr. Wood was explained the
requirements and level of education, technology and expertise
to be American Board Certified (ABC) in the disciplines of Orthotics
and Prosthetics.
